Here you are! What are we up to at Madi a Thavha CraftArt centre in Joburg and at our mountain lodge in the heart of Limpopo? There are plenty of opportunities for visitors to take part in fun, creative or educational activities in Gauteng or Limpopo sides.
Our Madi a Thavha CraftArt centre in Joburg is open to the public on Tuesdays until Saturdays, from 9:30 – 16:30 and on the first Sundays of the month from 10:00 – 15:00. Fridays are good days to catch the fresh Vic Yard veggies during the weekly Friday-urban-farm-market here.
Apart from open studios on the first Sunday of each month at Victoria Yards, one can look forward to an urban farmer’s market filled with organic produce from Victoria Yards’ lush gardens and neighbouring urban farms. There are great food and drinks at places like the famous Fish and Chip Shop, the Impi Craft Brewery, the Foakes Roastery ( excellent sour dough bread) and catering company Food I Love You that opens up their kitchen for a farm-style breakfast and harvest table lunch.
Visitors can expect to participate in workshops, networking, site activation’s, live performances, exhibitions and tours to each of the Maker Hubs in the area too – every First Sunday of the month, between 10 am and 3 pm.
During our March artist-in-residence we plan to bring a few of Limpopo’s master beaders to our CraftArt centre at Vic Yards (see dates below). They specialise in traditional bead work on textile, baskets and the use of beads in contemporary beaded jewellery with a hint of Limpopo’s cultural heritage.
During our April artist-in-residence programme some of Limpopo’s woodcarvers, traditional music makers and a young scrap-artist will be joining us.
Lots of action and fun during March and April to be expected then!

Soft dung-floors and colourful wall-art on traditional Venda, Tsonga and Northern Sotho homesteads are some of the most distinct characteristics of rural Limpopo. Sadly, with modern brick-and-mortar houses being easier to build and more convenient to maintain, this wonderful indigenous art-form becomes scarcer by the day. Preserving heritage in contemporary form Rural Limpopo fortunately still […]

The Venda, Tsonga and Northern Sotho people in Limpopo are excellent beaders and Madi a Thavha did not hesitate to help 8 beaders from Limpopo to enter the competition. Chrystal […]
