Madi a Thavha supports Vele Secondary school at Gogogo in Northern Venda, established with funding from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, the Creating Schools Charitable trust and the Department of Education in Limpopo it is a model for eco-friendly architecture and energy use in deep rural areas.
The school uses natural resources in an innovative way such as solar power, natural heating and cooling solutions, rain water capturing and compost toilets.
The school has perma-culture food gardens to provide vegetables for the learners. The school has a well-stocked library, computer centre and a maths and science lab. Madi a Thavha supported the school by organising a training in public relations skills and tour guiding. 4 learners stayed at Madi a Thavha Mountain Lodge for a one week training and they now act as ambassadors for the school.
